I created a kit called Sherbet early in my freebie design days. It is still one of my favorites to this day. It is bright, summery, and cheerful. And the word art is some of my favorites ever, so positive and inspiring.
I also added a few plaid pieces to the gallery and will be adding to it some more this weekend. My goal is to have all of my freebies in their new home within a week or so. That's depending on my mom's progress and such, but I should have enough time to jam pack that gallery this week.Speaking of mom's progress...
She is in the hospital right now, hoping to not get sent home again until she can do a short flight of stairs without worrying it will put her right back into the hospital. Half of her body and face are somewhat numb and hard to control, so the doctors are suggesting some heavy duty rehab, either at an in-patient facility or with a private therapist in our home. The woman who once was unbreakable and invincible is now dependent on others to help her walk or even dress herself. I pray she will find the inner strength to put up this big fight she has ahead of her. It's a long climb up a steep hill in the dark, but if anyone can do it, my mama can.
She has not smoked since Sunday, she is making good progress there. Partly I think because they won't let her leave the area of the hospital she is in, but also partly out of sheer determination to be healthy again. She also can't eat well (stroke survivors sometimes struggle as it can cause them to choke) so she has lost 10 pounds, but she is eating soft foods and doing what she can. Of course, she has cut her Pepsi and chocolate consumption down, so some of that weight loss is from that :)
I love my mom so much. The craziest things go through my head, and it really makes me realize how fragile life and family really is. Hug someone you love today.

this is so true, unfortunately we take what we have for granted until we are faced with these situations. my 23 year old son was diagnosed with testicular cancer in november. within 2 days he was surgery to have his test. removed...further testing revealed he had 2 different types of cancer, (2 that lance armstrong had) one being very aggressive, one very rare. his prognosis did not look good. he was then scheduled for a Retroperitoneal Lymph Node Dissection (RPLND) a major surgery to remove cancer cells in the lymph node along the aorta, that was to be followed by chemo and radiation. he had just married moved out of state and bought a new house, his surgery alone would put him out of work for a min. of 4 months. when he was first diagnosed we learned the state he lived in did not have state disability insurance. now fighting cancer he learns he will have zero income. he was overwhelmed...to say the least. i needed him to just get better not worry about finances. i reassured him i would figure something out if he promised to just focus on recovery but i knew i could not do this on my own. i had put "feelers" out looking for ideas for fundraisers...anything to help him and his wife get through this. my sister, in the mean time had an idea and took it upon herself to call close friends and family and explain the situation. she wanted to pull together donations to at least cover their morgatge for 4 months. this is ALOT to ask anyone, but she had enough people who could offer small amounts but committed to that amount each month for 4 months. words can't express how gratetful we were. (my sister is a genius!!) dealing with an illness is hard enough...then having the financial strain on top of that is almost unbearable.
that was 8 months ago, i am happy to say my son is in complete remission and is doing amazing, he is my hero as are all the people that came together to get him through this. i know this doesn't take away the pain or stress that you are feeling...but perhaps it will give you comfort knowing you aren't alone and there is a light at the end of the tunnel...hang in there!!! here is a little poem i wrote for my son on one of my long tearful nights. it really helped me to both write it and then read it to him, perhaps in one way or another it will do the same for you...
Rock's On A Path
Dedicated to my son Rocky, for his courage, strength and will…for all he endured while battling Cancer. You are a true survivor, you are my hero!
Never let go of your dreams
don’t let them slip away
When days of laughter turn to tears
close your eyes and pray
God will never give to you
more than you can bear
Hold these words close at heart
when life seems so unfair
Know you’ll never be alone
I’ll be right by your side
And when your eyes can’t see the light
let me be your guide
Embrace the strength you possess
and carry it with you
In those times you ask “why me”
remember to count your blessings too
When this journey’s over
Cherished all you’ve gained
For it’s your courage and inspiration
that will ease another’s pain
I Love You!!
Mom
