Creative ol' me

I am so excited. I sat down today and learned how to thread a sewing machine, load up a bobbin, and actually sew with it. I got the gift of a sewing machine from my mom for Christmas and sheer intimidation has kept me from sitting down and using it. But today I made up my mind. The machine was not going to scare me!

So I sat down with some adorable Dora the Explorer fabric I had bought and a little ribbon and I sewed a cute little pillowcase for Maia, then I used the remaining fabric and made a little two sided sheet of sorts (since summer is coming it didn't need to be a heavy blanket)... And I got it done RIGHT AT Maia's bedtime. It was perfect. I need to take some photos of it, I am so proud of me. Here are some photos of the fabric itself...
I guess you have to understand, when I was a kid, mom sewed us pretty things. Mostly dresses. And when she was sewing, we would sit around and watch, and wait, and watch, and wait... and then we would LOVE to try on the finished piece. She usually sewed our dresses for our school photos. I always wanted to learn how to sew so I could do the same thing for Maia. So I am on my way!
Anyhow, that has kept me from my usual scrap creating time, sorry! I will try to have something for you to break the Monday blues tomorrow morning. I am thinking of doing some sketches or quickpages tonight. We'll see if I have any creativity left in me after my sewing excursion.

So nice of you to share your 1st sewing experience as a Mother. I think it is fantastic & it is a lovely tradition to continue. I also sewed for my children & myself to economize. Your life & family moments are an integral part of your existence. You need balance in your life & to share this lovely experience is so much more than a freebie. Thanks for letting us into your precious moments.
